Devstral Small 1.1 hits 53.6% on SWE-Bench Verified, while Devstral Medium crushes both Gemini 2.5 Pro and GPT-4.1 at 25% of their cost with a 61.6% score. Both models excel with agentic scaffolds and support multiple prompting formats, making them particularly attractive for autonomous coding workflows.
A randomized controlled trial found that developers were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't. The results were surprising, as developers thought they were 20% faster with AU tools. The study asked 16 developers with moderate AI experience to complete 246 tasks in large and complex projects on which they had an average of five years of prior experience. Researchers from Anthropic and Scale AI just published a study testing 25 AI models for “alignment faking,” finding only five demonstrated deceptive behaviors, but not for the reasons we might expect. Only five models showed alignment faking out of the 25: Claude 3 Opus, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Llama 3 405B, Grok 3, and Gemini 2.0 Flash.
