Anthropic just introduced Claude Duet, an Opus 5.5-powered personal agent standalone app that can take proactive actions, work 24/7 (even when closed), and carry out tasks on its own cloud computer. Example tasks include morning briefs, tracking calendars, and booking meetings, with Duet able to use its own computer even when devices are off.

Meta's Cambridge Analytica hangover just got a $25 billion price tag. A judge ordered the Facebook and Instagram parent to pay New Mexico after a jury found 43 million violations of the state's consumer protection laws. The state's attorney general joked it "may have paid for the construction of schools for the next 100 years." Meta says it will appeal, calling the ruling a tax on speech.

PHP, the coding language behind ~70% of websites, just pushed patches for two critical flaws caught with OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol, with the National Security Agency urging anyone who can’t patch right away to pull systems offline. Security firm Calif found the first bug on Aug. 1 using 5.6 Sol, and Google-owned Wiz separately caught both weeks later with Sol and Gemini 4 Argon.
General Motors is adding a personal AI assistant to OnStar as part of a broader makeover of the subscription-based connected car service that the U.S. automaker launched 30 years ago. While Amazon slams the door on AI shopping agents, Walmart is holding it wide open. The retailer launched Agent Gateway, an MCP server that lets approved agents search its inventory and buy on shoppers' behalf, with Agent Profiles arriving next month so customers can see and control what each agent does. Walmart already partners with Meta's Muse, too.

Open Grok Bot on your iPhone, update it to 1.16, and open a voice chat once so microphone permissions are already enabled.
Create a dedicated Bot for your morning briefing. For details on how to create and manage Bots, see here.
Connect the work apps it should read, such as your email, calendar, Slack, or other supported plugins.
Sample Prompt: “When I ask for my morning brief, review today’s calendar, recent important messages, outstanding follow-ups, and active priorities. Give me my top 3 priorities, meetings I need to prepare for, anything overdue or blocked, and one recommended first action. Keep the briefing under 2 mins and prioritize anything time-sensitive.”
On your iPhone, open Settings > Action Button, swipe to ‘Shortcut’, then tap ‘Choose a Shortcut’. Select the Grok Bot voice action exposed by the app.
Press and hold the Action Button each morning, then say something like “Give me my morning brief” to launch the Bot hands-free.
