OAI just published the first benchmark results for Jalapeño, the custom chip it built with Broadcom to run AI models (not train them), with its tests showing wins over Nvidia's flagship systems on both speed and power efficiency. In tests, OAI's 700-watt chip topped Nvidia’s own options rated at 1,200 watts, answering up to 3.6x faster with up to 1.9x more work per watt.

Apple’s newest processors are here. The tech leader announced its new M5 Ultra and M6 chips, which power its new Mac Mini and Mac Studio. Apple’s deeming the M5 Ultra its “most powerful chip ever,” as it fuses two dual-die M5 Max chips to form Apple’s first quad-die chip, designed to manage hefty AI workloads.
Perplexity and Nvidia just launched Portable Computer, a new on-device take on Perplexity’s Computer agent that keeps files private and is free to run locally on Nvidia’s DGX Spark consumer hardware. Users can select between Qwen 3.8 27B or Perplexity’s own PPLX 27B as the local model, with the option to call in 15+ cloud models when needed.
OpenAI checks each sign-in request with a second model that looks for phishing before anyone types anything. A password manager works inside the browser window, and whatever a person types there stays with the remote browser. A security code may be needed too, and once the sign-in works the session can stay open for later tasks. ChatGPT has to ask before it books a reservation or pays, and a website can block the browser completely.
What a year for tech IPOs. Anthropic is reportedly preparing to tell IPO investors that its potential revenue opportunity exceeds $30 trillion. The figure would top the $28.5 trillion estimate SpaceX presented to investors ahead of its own IPO. In the process, the Claude maker could also aim to raise as much as $100 billion in the offering, targeting a valuation of about $2 trillion.
