For a recent collaboration with AIBM, I found myself working with data from the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), which I used in several examples in Think Stats. I was reminded of the technical debt I have accumulated while working with this data, and the dread I feel getting back to it. So I decided to make it a case study in agentic data science.
Bias-corrected and adjusted bootstrap does an ok job at confidence intervals of the mean from some example skewed distributions. Better than does relying on the traditional methods of just assuming normality from the central limit theorem. But for particularly awkward distributions, sample sizes are still needed in the thousands to get coverage that resembles the claimed coverage…

Google just announced it will launch its first AI chips into orbit next week under Project Suncatcher, a moonshot testing whether space can one day host data centers powered by near-constant sunlight. The chips, Trillium TPUs, will fly on SpaceX’s Transporter-18 mission with satellite firm Planet, testing whether they can survive space’s radiation, vibration, and heat.

When analytics on Postgres slows down, most teams add a second database. Then they manage pipelines, sync lag, and drift forever. TimescaleDB extends Postgres instead. Analytics run on live data, in the database you already have. No pipeline. No migration. No new query language.
OpenAI upgraded ChatGPT Voice so users can now speak to connected apps, launch agent tasks and hand more complex work to ChatGPT Work. GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna can now power Voice, giving users different levels of reasoning and speed depending on the task. Voice now works with ChatGPT Work on web and mobile, letting users launch complex tasks and control them by speaking.
C5R built Facility-0 to give AI models a way to work inside a real lab. Models can inspect available materials and equipment, design experiments as code, then turn those plans into instructions for machines or human operators. Once results come back, the model analyzes them, adjusts its plan and decides what to try next. Humans still handle some physical steps, so the research process is AI-directed rather than completely human-free.
Oracle has sent a force majeure notice to Blue Owl Capital, the developer of Project Jupiter, a flagship Stargate data center campus in New Mexico. The notice would allow Oracle to delay payments if the facility misses its 2028 target, though the company maintains it does not expect delays.
