Meta released Muse Spark Open, an open-weight model with 816B parameters, 42B active per token, and a 1M-token context window. It accepts text, images, video, and audio, and generates text. Unsloth’s Dynamic GGUFs bring the model to local workstations, with the smaller 2-bit version fitting within a 256GB memory budget. For developers with a high-memory workstation or teams sharing an inference server, that provides a way to run the model on their own hardware.

Within the same week, two major AI labs on opposite sides of the Pacific moved toward huge new rounds. DeepSeek raised around 100B yuan ($15B). Roughly 2× its original target. Backers reportedly include Tencent and CATL. DeepSeek is also preparing for a possible Shanghai IPO. OpenAI is seeking another $30B. Target valuation: around $1.25T, that would be about 50% higher than its previous $852B valuation. A possible 2027 IPO is also being discussed.

Did I need to write a graphics device to output plots to an HTML canvas? No I did not. Did anyone ask for this? Oh hells no. Ah, but did I have fun? Hahahahahahahaha. No…For the longest time, graphics devices in R have been a mystery to me…I decided to use the master’s tools to build my own goddamn house: I shamelessly used Claude to teach me how these things are constructed, so that I could do it myself if I bloody well wanted to. This is that story….

A former Amazon and Microsoft engineer shows how he turns Sentry and PostHog signals into GitHub issues, then hands them to specialist agents to build, QA, and review the fix. You’ll also see how the system learns from each run so the factory gets better over time.

AI News:

Microsoft just published initial results from its MAI-DxO AI diagnostic system, revealing that it beats physicians on both complex medical cases and everyday ER visits while ordering fewer, cheaper tests at the same time. MAI-DxO works like a virtual panel of doctors, with AI agents proposing diagnoses, ordering tests, and challenging each other as new results come in.

Top U.S. banks, including JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley, are restricting third-party AI agents after finding them operating inside customer accounts, with some acting beyond instructions, Axios reported. The banks caught agents logging in with customers’ own credentials, against their rules, with some calling support lines or taking actions users never requested.

Uber just handed 30,000 people a new coworker named ChatGPT Work. The ride-share giant is rolling OpenAI's enterprise agent out company-wide after a 1,000-person pilot, where roughly 80% of early users were non-engineers doing things like analyzing operations data and localizing training materials. Uber didn't say what it's spending, only that it will watch how everyone uses it.

Claude uncovered bugs that survived years of testing and mathematically proved that certain software crashes are impossible under defined conditions. Claude completed mathematical proofs for 239 test entry points across 123 open-source software libraries, establishing that they cannot crash under defined conditions. The research uncovered hundreds of bugs, including a previously unknown logic flaw that had remained hidden for over a decade.

Turns out ConnectWise's cloud backup service made a very convenient front door. Microsoft says China-aligned hackers stole credentials from it, then used AI agents to break into around 2,250 customer organizations at nearly 3,000 sign-in attempts a minute, reading emails and files as if they belonged there. ConnectWise paused access to the backup service and says it's working on restoring it
