This article provides a summary of and commentary on the recent paper Small LLMs are the Future of Agentic AI. The study is a position paper that lays out several insightful postulates about the potential of small language models (SLMs) to drive innovation in agentic AI systems, compared to their larger counterparts, the LLMs, which are currently the predominant component fueling modern agentic AI solutions in organizations.

What if the solution to muscle spasms, bladder issues, fatigue, and brain fog…Was hiding in your water?

And in just seconds a day you could turn back the clock on your body!?

Without painful treatments, expensive doctor bills, or even leaving your house…In one study, participants experienced a difference in as little as 2 hours!

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are smart systems that depend on the synergy of cyber and physical components. They link the physical world (e.g. through sensors, actuators, robotics, and embedded systems) with the virtual world of information processing

Model Context Protocol sounds fancy and intimidating, but on first pass after a couple of hours poking around here’s my rough take: MCP exists as an open standard defining a way for LLMs to interact with APIs. This makes a ton of sense, because the alternative is something awful like vibe coding some piece of boilerplate code to call the API to feedback to the LLM.

We study the problem of learning a neural sampler to generate samples from discrete state spaces where the target probability mass function is known up to a normalizing constant, which is an important task in fields such as statistical physics, machine learning, combinatorial optimization, etc. To better address this challenging task when the state space has a large cardinality and the distribution is multi-modal, we propose Masked Diffusion Neural Sampler (MDNS), a novel framework for training discrete neural samplers.

We're the last generation of people who will translate ideas into code by hand. Future developers will just describe what they want and have it appear on the screen. The money and talent flowing into AI development make this future inevitable. The question is whether you'll be ready when it comes. Focus on the parts of product development that actually matter - understanding people, building the things they want, and getting those things in front of them.

AI News:

Microsoft has inked a massive deal worth up to $19.4B with Nebius Group. The agreement gives Microsoft access to dedicated AI computing capacity from a new data center in Vineland, NJ, starting later this year. The move comes as the company faces persistent "capacity constrained" conditions. CFO Amy Hood noted ongoing challenges in meeting demand for both internal AI products and Azure services for customers.

LeafGuard replaces your entire system with a design that's earned the Good Housekeeping Seal for 15 consecutive years. AI News Roundup readers qualify for 75% off installation plus $200 off. Custom-manufactured for your home with lifetime protection.

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has admitted that he can no longer tell the difference between humans and bots on social media, taking to social media platform X to declare that “bots have made it impossible to determine whether social media posts are really written by humans.” He made this declaration after scrolling through streams of Reddit posts, praising OpenAI’s AI coding platform, Codex, which left him assuming they must be “fake/bots,” even though he knows “Codex growth is really strong.”

Anthropic has endorsed SB 53, a California Bill that aims to reduce AI’s potential to cause “catastrophic risk” by demanding that AI model developers publish safety frameworks and safety and security reports. According to Anthropic it’s not a question of whether AI governance is needed, these “first-in-the-nation” requirements will carve a path towards the thoughtful development of AI, as opposed to reacting to catastrophe.

Apple's position as a gateway to the digital world is being severely imperiled by efforts from rival tech companies like Epic Games and Spotify. The EU Commission leveled a $2 billion fine against Apple for conduct against Spotify and others in March last year and introduced new laws to limit Apple's control over the App Store.

As we age, our muscles naturally lose mass, strength, and functionality, which can lead to fatigue and weakness beginning as early as our 30s. Recent studies indicate that our mitochondria—the cellular powerhouses that generate 90% of our energy—play a crucial role in this decline, contributing to reduced muscle function as we age. A new way to support and improve muscle health as we age, Mitopure® by Timeline is clinically shown to meaningfully boost our mitochondrial health to improve muscle strength, without any change in exercise required. Ready to feel stronger, for longer with Mitopure? Big Data News Weekly readers can take 30% off their first month with code 30NEWSLETTER for a limited time. While supplies last.

*500mg Mitopure® have been shown to (1) induce gene expression related to mitochondria function and metabolism and (2) increase the strength of the hamstring leg muscle in measures of knee extension and flexion after 4 months in overweight 40-65 year olds.
